ADA sidewalks

ADA-Compliant Parking & Pathways – Proper grading and surface preparation for wheelchair-accessible routes and parking area.

Ramps & Sidewalks – Installing smooth, sloped surfaces with appropriate handrails and non-slip materials.

Site Grading & Drainage Adjustments – Ensuring slopes, curbs, and transitions meet ADA regulations for accessibility.

Key Requirements & Features:

  • Proper Width & Clearance – Sidewalks must be at least 36 inches wide to accommodate wheelchairs and pedestrians comfortably.
  • Smooth & Stable Surface – We use durable, non-slip materials such as concrete or pavers to create a safe, even surface with minimal obstructions.
  • Cross Slope Compliance – Sidewalks must have a maximum cross slope of 2% to ensure proper drainage without creating a hazardous incline for wheelchair users.
  • Curb Cuts & Transitions – Where sidewalks intersect with streets or parking lots, we install curb ramps with tactile warning strips to provide safe, detectable transitions.

Curb Ramps & Detectable Warning Surfaces:

  •  Curb ramps must have a slope no greater than 1:12 (8.33%) and a minimum width of 36 inches.
  • Tactile warning strips (such as truncated domes) must be installed at curb ramp transitions to alert visually impaired pedestrians of the change in elevation.
  • We ensure proper drainage to prevent water pooling, which can create hazards.

Safe & Accessible Ramps:

  • Slope & Rise Regulations – Ramps must have a slope of no steeper than 1:12 (8.33%), meaning for every 12 inches of horizontal run, the ramp can rise only 1 inch.
  • Landing Requirements –
  • Landings must be at least 60 inches long and as wide as the ramp to allow for wheelchair maneuverability.
  • If ramps exceed 30 feet in length, an intermediate landing is required for resting.
  • Handrails & Edge Protection –
  • Ramps with a rise greater than 6 inches must have handrails on both sides, positioned between 34 to 38 inches high.
  • Edge protection, such as raised curbs or guardrails, prevents wheelchairs from rolling off the ramp.
  • Ramps must be made of a firm, stable, and slip-resistant surface, such as concrete or textured materials.
  • Drainage solutions are incorporated to prevent water accumulation and ice buildup.
